The Marysville Marathon Festival takes runners through scenic valley trails and forest tracks in one of Victoria’s most beautiful mountain regions, with courses starting and finishing in the heart of Marysville.
The route follows sections of the Steavenson River, passes forest trails, sparkling rivers and waterfalls, and takes longer-distance runners into more challenging mountain climbs with rewarding views from the top.
With towering trees, fern gullies, mountain lookouts and the iconic Steavenson Falls throughout the course, Marysville offers a memorable trail running experience in a spectacular natural setting.
From the Kids Dash and shorter run/walk distances through to the Half Marathon, Marathon, 50km Ultra and 100km challenge, the festival welcomes runners, walkers and families for a full weekend on the trails.
The Marysville Marathon Festival is more than a trail running event, it is a celebration of resilience, community and hope.
Following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires of 2009, which forever changed Marysville and the surrounding communities, local GP and passionate ultra-runner Dr. Lachlan Fraser envisioned an event that would encourage people to return, reconnect and support a town determined to rebuild. The festival was never intended to be a one-off celebration; it was created as a lasting annual event that would continue bringing visitors back year after year, helping local businesses, community groups and volunteers while showcasing the extraordinary beauty of the region.
Today, every runner, walker, volunteer and supporter becomes part of that ongoing story. Every entry helps strengthen the local community, every kilometre celebrates the resilience of those who rebuilt, and every visit contributes to Marysville’s future.
As you stand on the start line, remember that you are taking part in something far greater than a race. You are joining a tradition born from adversity, united by adventure, and inspired by the enduring spirit of a community that continues to welcome the world back to Marysville.
